Whether you're planning to install a pool or working on a major property renovation, it's important that you plan the excavation process carefully. You could handle the excavation yourself if you rent the right equipment, but you may want to work with an excavation specialist to be sure that the job is done properly and safely. Here's a look at a few things you need to think about before you start digging.

Is There Enough Room For Excavation Equipment?

One of the first things you need to determine is whether or not you have enough room for excavation equipment for the given project. If you're working too close to your home, or if there are obstructions too close to the digging area, you won't have the maneuverability that you need to get the excavation into the work area and to dig properly.

Talk with your excavation contractor or the excavator rental company about the amount of mobility space you need around the area. That way, you can be sure that you will be able to safely use the equipment when you need to.

How Deep Do You Need To Dig?

In order to choose the right excavation equipment or contractor for your needs, you also need to determine how deep you will have to dig. Depending on the type of project, you may find that you need to dig deeper than your actual dimensions to allow space for leveling and building a solid foundation.

Take some time to evaluate your plan and make sure that you have the proper dimensions before you start digging. This ensures that, when you start digging, you get the final product that you're looking for.

Where Will You Put The Excavated Dirt?

Working with an excavation contractor eliminates a variety of logistical issues from your project, not the least of which is the disposal plan for the dirt that you excavate. These contractors will have the equipment and transportation to haul the excavated dirt off your property and dispose of it properly. That way, you don't even have to worry about it.

However, if you're planning this project on your own, you'll have to give some consideration to how you will dispose of the dirt. This may mean having to rent a dump truck or working with a hauling and transportation company to do the job. Either way, you need to make sure that you have some sort of service in place to address the waste from your excavation project.

Be sure to speak with a local contractor if you have further questions regarding residential excavation.
